A clean bass amp, cabinet and microphone recording simulator driven by one editable virtual scene: the selected speaker count, size, microphone type, recording technique, position and distance change both the displayed scene and the audio.

Smart Bass Studio Rig puts a bass DI through a clean amp profile, a cabinet whose cones are really there, and up to 4 microphones in a virtual room – and shows you the whole arrangement as one editable scene. Choose a cabinet and its drivers appear; choose a technique and the microphones take their places; drag a microphone and both its distance label and its sound change together. The picture and the audio are derived from the same scene data, so what you see is what the model computes.

Every response in this plug-in is a RONA parametric model – a documented set of physics-shaped curves (piston radiation, first-order microphone patterns, the inverse distance law, image-source reflections, a Sabine estimate for the room tail) with published numbers for each driver, cabinet, microphone type and amp profile. Nothing is a copy of a particular commercial amplifier, speaker or microphone; the names (Solid Deep, Round Fifteen, Studio Twelve, Compact Punch; Dynamic, Large condenser, Passive ribbon …) are original generic names. Section 24 lists exactly what is modelled and what is not.

Three deterministic analysis tools help you place and align the microphones: Phase Assist (natural timing first, then the measured pairwise lag and correlation of a Listen take with a proposed polarity / delay correction and its tradeoff), Low End Anchor (DI against the cabinet below a crossover, protecting the mono low end) and Compare Placement (three admissible microphone moves scored through the model against Warmer, Clearer or Less comb). They propose; you apply. Silence or an unstable correlation yields no recommendation, and the reason is shown. They are searches and measurements with stated conditions – never guesses.

‘Smart Bass Studio Rig’, ‘RONA SceneLock’, ‘Low End Anchor’, ‘Phase Assist’ and ‘Compare Placement’ are working product names.

Questions

How do I install and activate Smart Bass Studio Rig?

Download RONA License Manager from rona.com.au/license-manager, log in with your rona.com.au account and click Install next to the product. It activates this computer, downloads the right installer for your system and installs every format. There is no serial number to enter and no activation button inside the plug-in.

How many computers can I use it on?

Each serial number can be active on up to 3 computers at the same time. On a Mac the VST3, AU and AAX formats share one activation. You can see your computers and free a slot at any time in RONA License Manager (Activations) or on rona.com.au under My Account → My Products.

Which formats are included?

Windows: VST3 and AAX. macOS: VST3, AU (Audio Unit) and AAX, Universal 2 for Intel and Apple Silicon. RONA License Manager installs all formats of a product together and they share one activation.

Do I need an internet connection?

An internet connection is needed for RONA License Manager to log in, activate, download and update your products. You do not need to be online while you work in your DAW.

No sound or only the DI?

check the microphone faders and Mute / Solo (Advanced), the Room return for room-role microphones, Bypass, and the licence banner (section 4). An amber mic count or technique note means the scene is showing a resolved value – choose a count inside the technique’s range.

A microphone will not move?

it is locked (SceneLock, the tooltip says so) or it is a pair member – edit the pair group in Advanced or drag the pair’s handle; or the position is limited by a cone, the cabinet or a wall (amber).

Phase Assist says 'silence' or 'unstable'?

Listen to a louder, fuller passage with low notes; move a distant microphone closer; check that at least two microphones are active.

The low end disappears in mono?

run the Low End Anchor and audition its proposal; try a smaller AB spacing (the warning names the comb frequency) or a coincident technique; use Mono Check while you move the pair.

Clipping on the Output meter?

lower the microphone faders or Output; check the Headroom bar – red means the amp profile is past its onset (with Colour off the path is still linear, but the mix may be too hot).

Automation of a microphone position sounds stepped?

scene parameters rebuild and crossfade within about a thirtieth of a second (section 17); use slower moves or automate the real-time controls instead.
