A clean guitar amp, cabinet and microphone recording simulator driven by one editable virtual scene.

Smart Guitar Studio Rig is a clean guitar amp, cabinet and microphone recording simulator driven by one editable virtual scene. The amp profile, the cabinet with its actual number and size of speakers, the enclosure, the microphones and their types and patterns, the recording technique, every microphone position, angle and distance, and the room change both the scene you see and the sound you hear – from the same numbers.

Play a clean DI guitar (or re-amp a recorded DI track) into the plug-in. The signal runs through one of four original clean amp profiles, then through the cabinet and up to four virtual microphones (plus the clean DI), each with its own response from where it stands in the room, and into the Signal Mix, where you set levels, pans, polarity and timing and hear the stereo result.

Every response is a documented parametric model: the speakers, the enclosure, each microphone type and pattern and the room are calculated from published acoustic relationships with documented parameters. There are no measured impulse responses in this product, and no response imitates a particular commercial amplifier, speaker or microphone; the names you see are generic.

The scene tools help you place microphones: RONA SceneLock keeps what you have decided fixed, Compare Placement measures a few admissible alternatives on your own playing and lets you audition them loudness-matched, Phase Assist shows the natural timing between microphones and proposes polarity and delay corrections with the measured trade-off, and the tonal comparison compares cap, cap edge and cone on the same passage. Each is a deterministic search over measurements and proposes; nothing changes until you apply it.

‘Smart Guitar Studio Rig’, ‘RONA SceneLock’, ‘Compare Placement’ and ‘Phase Assist’ are working product names.

Questions

How do I install and activate Smart Guitar Studio Rig?

Download RONA License Manager from rona.com.au/license-manager, log in with your rona.com.au account and click Install next to the product. It activates this computer, downloads the right installer for your system and installs every format. There is no serial number to enter and no activation button inside the plug-in.

How many computers can I use it on?

Each serial number can be active on up to 3 computers at the same time. On a Mac the VST3, AU and AAX formats share one activation. You can see your computers and free a slot at any time in RONA License Manager (Activations) or on rona.com.au under My Account → My Products.

Which formats are included?

Windows: VST3 and AAX. macOS: VST3, AU (Audio Unit) and AAX, Universal 2 for Intel and Apple Silicon. RONA License Manager installs all formats of a product together and they share one activation.

Do I need an internet connection?

An internet connection is needed for RONA License Manager to log in, activate, download and update your products. You do not need to be online while you work in your DAW.

No sound from a microphone?

check that the slot is enabled, not muted, that another slot is not soloed, that its fader is above ‘-inf’ and, for a room microphone, that the Room return is up.

A thin or hollow sound with two or more microphones?

the microphones cancel each other. Use Mono Check, try Polarity on one of them, or run Phase Assist.

A warning on a microphone tab?

the microphone is inside the cabinet, a cone or a wall, or its distance is outside its role’s range; move it or change the role.

Compare Placement says 'Capture a DI preview with Listen first'?

record a Listen passage (section 9). ‘Geometry is locked’: turn the geometry lock off or SceneLock off.

A delay trim shows 'limited'?

raise the Alignment Reserve in the Advanced drawer.

Clipping on the output meter?

lower Master, the microphone levels or Output Trim.
